emergency home repair tax write off?

I recieved a notice of unsafe condition from the city on my property. Can I write off any expenses to repair the retaining wall in question?
What if the retaining wall was damaged during a declared state of emergency?

This would not be a deduction if it is your personal residence. It could be an adjustment to your basis if you own the home. That will reduce any gain you may make when you sell the house in the future. It is not an adjustment to bases if it is only a repair to what had existed when you purchased the house.

Is there a home repair for a chip in my windshield?

Just had a rock put a small chip in my windshield. I am looking for something I could do to prevent it from sending out the spiderweb cracks. I think I have heard about using some type of glue.

There might be a home repair but even good detail shops do theese repairs now days.It is very low in cost.I would allow someone else to do it,insurance usually covers it.Can always just take it to a place that does automotive glass!They heat up the glass and it melts slightly so the crack can’t continue.

Do home repair people ever take a shower?

Or do I just have bad luck? I had a flood in my apt. and the musty smell was nothing compared to the odor they left behind. Also the blowers they brought in to dry the carpet were filthy. This happens no matter where I live. The last time I had a toilet problem, I fixed it myself to avoid the problem.
IT’s an apt. so I get whoever the mgmt. sends.

My guess is that you have had some VERY bad luck, not only with the repairs needing done but with those doing them. Yes, we (speaking as a repair person) take daily showers, sometimes more than one, but like anything else there are some slobs out there. Personally, I won’t put up with that sort of thing but have indeed also run across it. No, it is NOT the norm. Reputable contractors won’t last long in the business if their workers smell badly enough that you can pick up on it when they arrive or especially after they have gone. Granted, some jobs are going to have you sweating like a stuck pig (like working in an attic in the summer), but a good contractor cleans up after himself (or herself), and leave the job in better condition (including smell) than when they arrived.

Home repair warranty is it worth it?

I have a old rebublic home warranty that was included when i originally purchased my home. It is about to expire in march and there asking $300 to extend it another year with a $100 per call service charge. Is it advantage to me to purchase the warranty or just put that money ito an emergency fund?

I’d go w/the warranty. I know it sounds like a lot on the service call, but if they were to come back after getting parts there would be no more fee to be paid. As long as whatever it is…plumbing or A/C…isn’t neglected the home warranty will cover repairs. Make sure you keep your coil cleaned, that is the first thing that a HVAC looks at when they’re called out. If it’s dirty, it puts you in denial and you’re stuck w/paying to clean it and all the repairs….that can get costly!
