I watched an episode of Hometime today where they were installing ceramic tile on the floor. They spent the entire half-hour program going into detail of each step of the way. I’ve seen that with other kinds of work too, but never with electrical. On any given program where the project involves any electrical work, they never spend more than 5 minutes describing it, and they only give an overview of what needs to be done — not how to actually do it.

Liability. Giving someone a little bit of information about electricity can be fatal. Electrical work is not something that can be learned from watching a 30 minute TV show. In addition, most states require that electrical work done on property other than your own home be done by a qualified electrician. Sometimes, they will show them installing light fixtures, but all of the preliminary wiring has been done to the point that the finish is as close to idiot-proof as you can get. Hope this helps.

My husband and I bought a house built in 1908 and have been doing some minor work on it. The house had “popcorn” ceiling in one of the rooms, that we naively removed two weeks ago. Since finishing the project, we’ve been advised that most of that old popcorn ceiling contained asbestos. We did put up plastic, wet the ceiling down to remove the popcorn texture and did a thorough clean-up with wet towels and a shop vac afterwards, but in no way did we take the proper precautions against asbestos. Now we’re worried we released the fibers all over the house.

What should we do next? How can we deal with the fibers that may still be in our home? What is the likelihood we will develop lung problems from this exposure?

I am not an expert on this by any means, but here is a link to the National Cancer Institute’s website, that will give you some information, and hopefully help you out.

I spent 20 years in the construction industry, and now I am a Respiratory Therapist. Everyone is exposed to asbestos at some level. My guess is that the level of exposure that you had in renovating this house was relatively minor, so I doubt if you have to worry much, but research it more & talk to your doctor if you are worried. Good luck!

Do i include any existing, untouched, parts of the home in the estimate of sq metres for costing purposes ? What is an average price per square metre ? The home is a wooden free-standing cottage built of wood in inner-west sydney

multiply length by width of said structure..that is your square meters… this is called "floor space they not wall space….if you want wall space..you measure each wall(usally 4 walls will be same measurement) heighth X length is the formula….total all walls if it is wall area you need…then add them together..the cost per sm..well that totally depends on what you are going to do with it..differnet paint finishes, floorings, tile etc..good luck
