The mobile home that we have is 18 years old and it’s been paid off.

It would probably be more beneficial just to trade that one in on a newer model, unless you just want to rent it out and have a little income on the side.If you are really strapped for money and do not think you can afford monthly mortgage payments, I would try to simply fix it up on my own. My dad does that type of work and some of the older homes he has remodeled look like new when he finishes with them..

Everything was done on this house:
New roof, doors, trim, hardware, paint inside and out, light fixtures and air vents. Recoat walls and ceiling to level 5 smooth (no texture). Enclosed carport to make garage. Extended back patio. Upgraded 200 amp service panel, plumbing and insulation. Installed Ikea kitchen, bathrooms, master bedroom wardrobe and tankless water heater. Exposed and finished concrete floors and regraded front and back yard. New block wall across alley and gates.

All that is left is landscape with desert plants and quarter minus granite. Add some color to the spaces with art and carpets.

Thanks for checking it out.

Since you only do it once, maybe twice, can a person just rely on learning repair and remodeling tips from the internet, books and TV networks such as DIY Network?

You can learn a lot from us and watching the DIY shows and books, but nothing beats hands on learning. One project will teach you stuff that will tie into another. Take every thing w/ a grain of salt because there are never 2 projects exactly alike and you ll have to be flexible on all projects. GL

I have some architectural training, am a graphic designer and wish to draw my own plans for an addition and new dormer for my home.

Google Sketchup is an easy-to-use 3D modeling software that enables you to create 3D models of houses, buildings and many other objects, using an array of drag and drop tools and materials in a WYSIWYG editing environment. You can design your objects with rectangles, circles, ovals, arcs, lines and freehand drawings, and use a unique push/pull tool to add dimension to 2D objects….etc.
Freeware.

Wow. Thank God for Yahoo Answers. I have been wondering how much for a long time. My house is pretty big basemet, 2 stories, and an atic. I want to put hardwood flooring, and make the house more contemporary.Maybe even put a pool in my basement. Is this possible and how much do you think it would run me.If you need pictures of my house our any other information that could help you answer my question, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Well first of all, How much of your house did you want to put the hardwood flooring in? How many rooms?

As far as the basement pool is concerned, is your basement underground? Is it made out of conrete or steel?

The pool will cost you the most.

Do a research on-line about styles, decorating, etc – this will save you money on magazines. Go to a "decorating Center" – there you can look through differnt wallpaper books and colour swatches, which can give you loads of ideas. Take samples whenever you can. Small tip – wallpapers are better to be seen in Decorating centeres, but to be bought on the internet – it is cheaper (make sure you write down the name of the Pattern book & number of the pattern).
Save all the pictures from the internet of the interiors you like. Make one document with ideas for every room.
Visit a home-improvement exhibition – there (especially by the end of the exhibition) you can buy discounted goods because they are on display there, & exhibitors are not too keen to drag them all back with them.
Do not be afraid to make a reasonable offer for something you like.
There are stores that sell paint, decorating stuff by trade prices. I know a few good ones in UK, – I don’t know where you live..
Recycle – there are a lot of salvage yards you can get the goods from. Do not be afraid of the looks of the stuff you find – with a thorough cleaning or painting, or varnishing – every old thing can turn into a jewel!
Look for special deals in DIY stores- do not buy things from the 1st store you look in.
E-bay is a very good source for finding things cheaper then they are in the shops. Do not look only in ebay listings, but also in Ebay shops.
Hope this helps
